2026 AES Resident EEG Course

 

AES presents its popular live Resident EEG Course, designed to introduce residents to modern EEG practices. This year, the course will host 40 residents over two full days at the AES Annual Meeting in Denver, CO. The Resident EEG Course will occur on Friday, December 4 – Saturday, December 5.

The purpose of this multi-day course is to provide an interactive structured curriculum on pediatric and adult electroencephalography (EEG), taught by a variety of epileptologist educators. Historical, physiological, and technical aspects of EEG will be discussed. The course will use multiple learning strategies including focused brief didactic lectures, structured hands-on experience and educator-led small group sessions, mentoring, and networking sessions with peers and experts in the field. The bulk of the course will be a boot camp of EEG interpretation including the ABCs of artifact, benign variants, and coma patterns; the gamut from encoches frontales to electrocerebral silence; the spectrum of interictal to ictal patterns; and more! 

Course Aims

  • Stimulate early interest in EEG and its application among neurology residents.
  • Facilitate early development of interest in epilepsy among neurology trainees.
  • Provide opportunities of networking for neurology trainees at the incipient career level.

Who should apply?

The target audience for this course is adult and pediatric neurology junior residents.

Eligible candidates include:

  • Residents enrolled in an ACGME-approved, neurology program at an institution in the US or Canada at the time of the 2026 AES Annual Meeting
  • Residents have expressed interest in the epilepsy field

    How to Apply

     

    The EEG course nomination form will open Summer 2026.

    Program Directors and Program Coordinators can opt-in to receive updates for the EEG course here.

    Please review the following instructions.

    Only one resident per program may be nominated.

    • Resident has expressed an interest in the epilepsy field
    • Resident must be in good standing
    • Guarantee the resident can attend the entire course on December 4 – 5, 2026
    • Due to the small number of spots available, all qualified candidates will be randomly selected. Preference will be given to junior residents
    • Applicants should not register for the 2026 Annual Meeting until they have received notification regarding whether they have been accepted to the Resident EEG Course

     

    Notifications will be sent out via email by the end of August.

     

     

    If Accepted

    • Selected residents will need to verify their attendance with AES
    • Receive a $500 travel stipend. Travel stipends are contingent upon course attendance
    • Receive complimentary registration to the full AES Annual Meeting in Denver (December 4-8, 2026)
