Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course

Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course

2024 AES and ASSFN Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course

The nomination period for the 2024 Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course is now closed.

AES is pleased to once again offer a joint multidisciplinary course with the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (ASSFN) for up to 40 mid- to senior-level neurology and neurosurgery residents. The focus of the course is on the evaluation of patients for epilepsy surgery and the surgery process.

This AES and ASSFN Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course is being held in person over two full days--Friday, December 6, and Saturday, December 7--at the AES Annual Meeting in Los Angeles.

This course aims to:

  • Expand knowledge and share best practices of epilepsy surgery
  • Facilitate the appropriate use of epilepsy surgery as a tool for patients with intractable epilepsy
  • Increase exposure to AES for residents in neurology and neurosurgery to grow the community of practitioners

Who should apply?

The target audience for this course is mid- to senior-level neurology and neurosurgery residents.

Eligible candidates include:

  • Residents enrolled in an ACGME-approved neurology or neurosurgery program at an institution in the US or Canada at the time of the 2024 AES Annual Meeting
  • Residents who have expressed interest in surgical epilepsy

How to Apply

Deadline: Monday, August 12, 2024

Neurology and neurosurgery program directors must nominate eligible residents to participate. Program directors may nominate one resident per program.

For a resident to be considered:

  • Resident must be Adult Neurology PGY3-4, Pediatric Neurology PGY4-5, or Neurosurgery PGY2-6 and in good standing
  • Resident must have expressed an interest in surgical epilepsy
  • Resident must be able to attend the full two-day course on December 6 and December 7, 2024, in Los Angeles

Only one resident per program may be nominated. Due to the small number of spots available, qualified candidates will be randomly selected.

Selected applicants should not register for the 2024 Annual Meeting until they have received notification that they have been accepted to participate in the Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course.

If accepted:

  • Residents will receive a $500 travel stipend for the Annual Meeting, contingent upon course attendance
  • Residents will receive complimentary registration to the full AES Annual Meeting (December 6-10, 2024) and are encouraged to participate in the education, career development, and networking opportunities over the full five-day event

Notifications will be sent out via email to both program directors and residents by the end of August.
