Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course

Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course

2025 AES and ASSFN Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course

AES is offering a joint multidisciplinary course with the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (ASSFN) for 40 mid-senior level neurology and neurosurgery residents. The focus of the course is on the evaluation of patients for epilepsy surgery and the process of these surgeries. This joint AES and ASSFN Resident Epilepsy Surgery Course is two full days at the AES Annual Meeting in Atlanta. The AES and ASSFN course will take place on Friday, December 5 – Saturday, December 6.

The purpose of this multi-day course is to share the most up-to-date information about epilepsy surgery with the next generation of providers. This exposure may facilitate their appropriate use of epilepsy surgery as a tool for the treatment of patients with intractable epilepsy. Day 1 of the course will cover pre-operative evaluation, and day 2 will address surgical interventions and methods: indications and results. The course will use multiple learning strategies including focused brief didactic lectures, and educator-led small group sessions with peers and experts  in the field of neurology, neuropsychology, and neurosurgery.

Course Aims:

  • Expand knowledge and share best practices of epilepsy surgery with a variety of trainees
  • Facilitate the appropriate use of epilepsy surgery as a tool for patients with intractable epilepsy
  • Increase exposure to AES for residents in neurology and neurosurgery in order to grow the community of practitioners
