To observe the effect of the coil with small impedance and big capacitance embedded impairing parts of myoneural junctions on temporal epilepsy seizure, investigate the new peripheral therapy to epilepsy. 16 monkeys were injected into lateral ventricle with kainic acid to make temporal epilepsy models, which were divided Surgery and Control groups. Models in Surgery group were embedded respectively the coil into contractors of forearms, legs and back neck and impaired parts of myoneural junctions under the microscope. The other animals in Control group were performed false surgery without embedding coil and impairing myoneural junctions. Before and after surgery, all models were scored according to their epileptic seizure, seizure electromyograms were draw and muscle examples were adopted to exam the changes of myoneural junctions under TEM. 1 Compared with control group, the therapy significantly improved the epileptic times and seizure( Control 10[plusmn]1.72 V. Surgery 3[plusmn]1.81, P[lt]0.01), 6 cases completely recovered without seizure. 2 The frequency and amplitude of seizure electromyograms in Surgery group were significantly reduced (P[lt]0.01); The EMGs of those 6 cases were almost normal. 3 TEM showed that large numbers of myoneural junctions swelled, postsynaptic membrane is with vacuolus degeneration and the number of Golgi[apos]s organs increased. These changes mean parts of myoneural junctions resolved. It can significantly improve the temporal epilepsy seizure, Embedding of the coil with small impedance and big capacitance and impairing parts of myoneural junctions, especially grand mal. The mechanism probably is that epileptic discharge effect of nerve domination on muscle is weakened after surgery, epileptic discharges were conducted to the coil with big capacitance and was stored; so, a [ldquo]short circuit[rdquo] was set up and epileptic discharges cannot be conducted to muscle and induced muscle excitation. Deeper mechanism should be further investigated. (Supported by Chinese Natural Science Fund Commitee(number:03080133).)
