Rationale: Children with epilepsy have been suggested to be at increased risk for externalizing behavioral problems, including symptoms characteristic of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder (CD). Our objective is to present the prevalence of externalizing behaviors in children with epilepsy using parental report and identify risk factors for externalizing behavioral problems in this population. Methods: Children 6-17 years of age with an established diagnosis of epilepsy for at least three months without other chronic medical conditions or cognitive impairment (IQ <70) were recruited from a pediatric neurology clinic in a tertiary care center. Parents of the patients completed questionnaires on demographic information, family function (Family Assessment Measure III), and the child’s behaviors (Child Symptom Inventory [CSI] for ages 6-12, Adolescent Symptom Inventory [ASI] for ages 13-17). Positive screens on the CSI/ASI were identified for T-scores >
