Rationale: Levetiracetam had been used in adjuvant Therapy. Levetiracetam is also used in monotherapy. so we also studied the effect and efficacy of Levetiracetam monotherapy between 1month and 5 years old in Cheongju,Korea.Methods: We prospectively studied the age, sex, types of epilepsy, doses of drug, efficacy. We studied 11 epilepsy infants and children between 1 month and 5 years old treated by Levitiracetam monotherapy who visited our hospital since June to December 2010. Results: The age is from 11 month to 56months. The mean age of taking Levetiacetam initially is 39 1 months( from 11 months to 57 months). The types of epilepsy showed partial seizures in 20.0% and generalized seizure 90.0%. The mean dose started initially is 10 1 mg/kg/day (from 3.8 mg/kg/day to 16.0 mg/kg/day). The mean final dose is 31 1 mg/kg/day (from 13.0 mg/kg/day to 40.0 mg/kg/day). The mean duration of therapy is 6 1months, and the duration of therapy ranged from 6 to 12 months. Thirty percents of patients became seizure free. Fifty percents patients showed at least 75% seizure reduction. Seventy percents showed at least 50% seizure reduction. One patients showed a skin rash.Conclusions: We studied efficacy and tolerability of monotherapy of Levetiracetam between 1month and 5 years old patients. Levetiracetam is effective and tolerable in the monotherapy of epilepsy in infants and children.
