Rationale: OSA and epilepsy has reciprocally associated. Literature reports a worsening of seizure in patients suffering from OSA. CPAP treatment might improve seizure control. To aim the relationship between OSA and epilepsy in patients referring to our sleep center. Methods: We included all pts suffering from OSA and seizures Results: 27 pts (23 M and 4 F) were included; mean age 47.4 years, mean BMI 30.1. Mean Apnea/Hypopnea Index (AHI) was 16.7, with mean minimum desaturation of 85.3%. 4 male pts als had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), realising an Overlap Syndrome. Diagnosis of OSA was made before epilepsy only in 3 cases; 11 pts had partial eseizures(2 cases of meningioma, 1 of right parietal dysplasia, 1 of stroke outcome, 7 criptogenetic) with fronto-temporal focal EEG, 16 generalized seizures (2 cases post-traumatic and 1 case of sclerosis tuberosa). Seizures occurred mainly during morning or night. 11 pts were under CPAP treatment, besides antiepileptic drugs. All pts were CPAP compliant with reduction of seizure frequency (about 30%). Conclusions: Our data show OSA is associated to epilepsy especially in male and CPAP treatment improve drug response to seizures.
