Rationale:

Continuous EEG (cEEG) practice has markedly changed over the last decade as evidence has shown its utility in detecting subclinical seizures and improving neurologic outcomes in the critically ill. There has been an increase in the use of cEEG, but limited knowledge about the current cEEG infrastructure in US hospitals. There is only one national survey of cEEG use which was conducted in 2012.

Methods: A web-based survey on cEEG practices was sent to neurophysiologists who interpret EEG at 123 institutions with ACGME-accredited epilepsy or clinical neurophysiology programs in the United States. Study data were collected and managed using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) hosted at the Baylor College of Medicine. Statistical analysis was performed using a two-tailed Spearman’s rank correlation, with significance set at p< 0.05.
