To summarize the epileptic clinical characteristics and surgical therapeutic experiences of heterotopic gray matter(HGM) and observe the post-operative effects.
5 cases with craniotomy and 1 case with radiotherapy in g-knife. Among of the craniotomies, resecting HGM purely or combining resecting the malformed tissues such as pachygyria were performed, 1 case underwent thermo-coagulation of the cortex near HGM
6 cases have been followed up for 9-37 months (mean 18 months). 5 cases with seizure free and 1 case with a significant relieve from seizure attack in 1 year , and 1 case with recurrent epilepsy after 1 year, but she had a lower frequency seizure attack. The complications were observed with 1 case a temporal paralysis and another visual filed hemianopia.
Resecting and/or radiating HGM can stop seizure attack or lower it[rsquo]s frequency with a good early effect.
