Rationale:
A febrile seizure is one of the most common type of seizures during chilhood and about one-third of the them showed a recurrence of febrile seizures in Korea. Some serum laboratory studies related to recurrence of febrile seizure, such as low sodium are known, however, other laboratory studies are insufficient. This study evaluated the relationship between serum laboaratory studies and the recurrence of febrile seizure.

Methods:
Patients who were first diagnosed with febrile seizure in Wonju Severance Christian Hospital between 2018 and 2021 were confirmed. Serum Na, K, Cl, CO2, Ca, Glucose, CK, LDH, lactate, Magnesium, Hemoglobin, Platelet study were confirmed at the time of first diagnosing febrile seizure. The medical records of visiting Wonju Severance Christian Hospital due to additional febrile seizure occurrence for at least two years after initial diagnosis were confirmed to confirm how many recurrences occurred. It was thought that there was no recurrence if there was no additional medical record in Wonju Severance Christian Hospital as a febrile seizure after the first febrile seizure.

Results:
A total of 313 patients were confirmed: 249 were not recur, 60 had recurrence(once=40 twice=11, three times=11, fifth times=3). 301 had serum study.

Compared to the group that did not recur, platelet was statistically significantly higher in the group that had recurrence (PLT 229.08 ±113.94 vs 335.07±139.01 E9/L, p=0.041). Compared to the group that did not recur, hemoglobin was statistically significantly lower in the group that recurred twice. (Hb 12.26 ±0.79 vs 11.94±0.32 g/dL, p=0.015).

Conclusions:
In our study, there was no association with serological studies and febrile seizure recurrence. Hematological studies such as Hemoglobin, platelet was associated with febrile seizure recurrence. Future study will be needed why hemoglobin and platelet are associated with febrile seizure recurrence.
