Meet the 2024 AES Award Recipients
phillip pearlPhillip L. Pearl, MD is director of epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology at Boston Children’s Hospital and William G. Lennox Chair and professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. He attended Johns Hopkins University, the Peabody Conservatory of Music, and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He took his residency at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine and fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. He was division chief of neurology at Children’s National and professor of neurology, pediatrics, and music at the George Washington University School of Medicine until returning to Boston in January 2014. 

 

His major research interest is inherited metabolic epilepsies with a specific focus on disorders of GABA metabolism. Dr. Pearl has published over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts, over 160 chapters/reviews, and written or edited five books, one of which is translated into Chinese and one into Japanese.  Dr. Pearl is a member of the Music and Health Institute at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and is past president of the Professors of Child Neurology and the Child Neurology Society.   

About the Fritz E. Dreifuss Lecture

The Dreifuss Lecture honors the memory of Dr. Dreifuss, a leading clinical epilepsy specialist, clinical investigator, and former president of AES and the ILAE. Founder of the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the University of Virginia and mentor to a generation of epilepsy researchers, Dr. Dreifuss was devoted to mentoring those in clinical epilepsy research. This award is supported by the AES Fritz Dreifuss Epilepsy Fund.
