NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Fernando Cendes, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.N, F.A.E.S. was presented with the 55th Lombroso Lecturer Award during the 2022 Annual Meeting of the American Epilepsy Society (AES). The Lombroso Lecture is given each year by a clinician or scientist who is considered an outstanding investigator in the field of epilepsy research. The lecture and award is supported by the AES Lennox and Lombroso Trust. Dr. Cendes presented his lecture on The Quest to Unveil Hidden Focal Cortical Dysplasia on MRI.
Dr. Cendes is a full Professor of Neurology and Director of the Epilepsy Program and Neuroimaging Laboratory at the School of Medical Sciences, University of Campinas - UNICAMP, São Paulo, Brazil. He is a former Fellow and completed his Ph.D. at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital, McGill University, Canada (1991-1997).
He has been involved in several activities in the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) over the years, including the Diagnostic Commission and the local Brazilian chapter of ILAE. He is currently the Treasurer of the Brazilian League Against Epilepsy, a member of the ILAE Education Council, ILAE eLearning Task Force, Epilepsy surgery education task force, FCD Classification Task Force, and Imaging Task Force. He is also a Member of the American Epilepsy society since 1999.
Dr. Cendes is Associate Editor of Epilepsia and serves on several Editorial Boards. His research is focused on Epilepsy, Neuroimaging, and Clinical Neuroscience, with more than 500 papers full papers published.
