Epilepsy Monitoring Units

An epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) is an inpatient unit run by specialists in epilepsy. EMUs provide in-depth diagnostic and treatment services for people with difficult to diagnose or treat seizures and are typically part of a specialized epilepsy center that provides both outpatient and inpatient services to people with epilepsy and their families.

To find an epilepsy center, visit the National Association of Epilepsy Center's website. You will find a listing of epilepsy centers that are self-designated as comprehensive medical or surgical epilepsy centers and who are members of the NAEC.

To learn more about epilepsy centers, read NAEC's 2023 Guidelines for Specialized Epilepsy Centers: Report of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers Guideline Panel.
